Some of the first hard drives held a whopping 2 to 5 megs of data.  And that was a lot!

Today, however, Microsoft Windows 98 alone takes over 90 Meg and many of the everyday programs you likely use take well over 150 Megs.

This means that if you are to keep up with the newer updated programs that you have become used to, additional storage space may be necessary.  

If you don't eventually increase the storage capacity of your computers, you will be seeing a "Disk Full" note when you try to enter a new account or transaction.

The good news is that as the size of the average software program has gone up, the cost of hard drives has come down.  Yet despite the falling prices, hard drives continued to increase in quality and durability.  It is a good idea to replace a hard drive that is either too small or too old to be reliable now -- before you have a serious loss of data.
